The Sandbox, a prominent metaverse platform, has set its sights on India, aiming to make it its largest market within the next two years. This initiative began earlier this year through a joint venture, marking a first for Animoca Brands’ subsidiary. Sandbox Co-Founder Sebastien Borget emphasized the vision of building a diverse, inclusive world by connecting different regions, with India being a key focus. The joint venture with global venture accelerator Brinc resulted in BharatBox, a cultural metaverse hub encompassing elements of Bollywood.

BharatBox, under the leadership of CEO Karan Keswani, represents the Indian extension of The Sandbox, termed BharatVerse. Despite regulatory challenges in India’s crypto space, The Sandbox’s move reflects strong interest in the nation’s gaming and developer potential. The platform is engaging with regulators to navigate the space.

Significant strides have been made with BharatBox signing 25 Indian partners, including major media entities like Eros Entertainment, Hungama, and Shemaroo. A pivotal partnership with CoinDCX, a leading Indian exchange, and Web3 wallet Okto, exposes The Sandbox to 16 million users, aiming to onboard 3-4 million gamers in 24 months.

The Sandbox plans to utilize Land NFTs for creating gamified experiences tailored to the Indian audience, including bringing epics like Mahabharat to the metaverse. Additionally, BharatBox aims to introduce more of Animoca Brands’ portfolio in India, providing varied Web3 solutions.
