A recent study conducted by CoinGecko and reported by CryptoPotato has unveiled a surprising shift in the United States’ interest in cryptocurrency, particularly spot Bitcoin Exchange-Traded Funds (ETFs). Nevada, traditionally not a primary financial hub like New York or California, has now emerged as the leader in this domain. This study, using Google Trends data from January 2019 to January 2024, shows Nevada scoring a perfect 100 in interest levels for spot Bitcoin ETFs, surpassing even New York and California.

The findings are significant as they point to a more geographically dispersed interest in cryptocurrency investments across the U.S. Washington, D.C., New Jersey, and New Hampshire also demonstrated high enthusiasm, scoring 93, 88, and 87 respectively. In contrast, New York and California, usually front-runners in financial innovations, ranked 7th and 8th.

Furthermore, the study highlights a relatively even distribution of curiosity about spot Bitcoin ETFs across the U.S., with state shares ranging from 0.7% to 3.8%. This broad-based interest underscores the nation’s anticipation for the introduction of its first spot Bitcoin ETF. Globally, Luxembourg leads in search interest, followed by St. Helena, Singapore, and Switzerland, indicating a global trend of increasing mainstream acceptance and adoption of cryptocurrency. However, Brazil’s lower ranking, despite having two spot Bitcoin ETFs, suggests a potential gap between product availability and public awareness or interest.
