Inferno Drainer, a widely-used crypto wallet-draining kit, announced its shutdown after assisting in the theft of nearly $70 million in cryptocurrencies this year. The service gained notoriety for its effectiveness in phishing scams, prompting its operators to declare it was "time for us to move on" in a Telegram post.

Despite the shutdown, the team behind Inferno Drainer indicated that the files and infrastructure needed to operate the wallet drainer would remain active, allowing for a smooth transition to other services. The decision to shut down follows the tool's rise to prominence, especially after the closure of a similar tool, Monkey Drainer.

Inferno Drainer reportedly stole nearly $70 million from over 100,000 victims since February. The team itself suggested that the amount stolen exceeded $80 million. Following this announcement, the Inferno Drainer team deleted its affiliate Telegram account and warned users against trusting other drainers using its name.

Blockchain security firm CertiK described Inferno Drainer as "one of the most damaging phishing kits to the community we’ve seen." This event highlights the ongoing challenges and threats posed by phishing kits in the cryptocurrency space.
