2024 is poised to be a landmark year for GameFi, with the release of several high-quality (AAA) titles possibly revolutionizing the sector. However, the industry faces the challenge of overcoming negative perceptions around uninspired gameplay and tokenization issues. Mark Long, CEO of Shrapnel, a AAA GameFi title, believes the upcoming games will change the narrative around blockchain gaming, which is often criticized for poor mechanics and a "play-to-work" model.

Not all are optimistic, though. Oleg Fomenko, co-founder of Sweat Economy, remains skeptical, seeing GameFi's differentiation from traditional gaming as flawed. He does, however, recognize the potential of Web3 elements in games, especially non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Les Borsai of Wave Financial stresses that for GameFi to succeed, it needs to integrate new technologies like AI seamlessly and offer genuinely engaging gameplay.

Teddy Pender from Mina Protocol suggests that zero-knowledge technology could simplify GameFi development, enhancing the gaming experience to match traditional gaming standards. Despite these advancements, Rob Greig and Josh Jones, co-founders of Cornucopias, believe that while 2024 will be significant for GameFi, mass adoption is more likely around 2025-2026.
