South Korean Lawmakers' Crypto Trading Nears $100M in Three Years

South Korean lawmakers have been actively trading cryptocurrencies, with transactions totaling nearly $100 million over three years. A report by the country's Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, following a three-month investigation, reveals that 18 out of 298 sitting members of the National Assembly engaged in digital asset transactions from May 2020 to May 2023. Bitcoin was the most traded cryptocurrency, among a total of 107 different digital assets in their portfolios. The extensive trading activity occurred despite a scandal involving a Democratic Party member and undeclared holdings of Wemix (WEMIX) tokens, leading to a unanimous vote by the South Korean government to mandate civil servants' disclosure of crypto assets​​​​​​​​.
