Compound DAO's Vote Falls Short: A Missed Bug Bounty Opportunity

Author : Renuka K

A vote by Compound DAO to reward a developer, pseudonymously known as 'KP,' for fixing a significant bug in its v3 protocol, fell short of the necessary quorum. Despite over 70% of the votes being in favor, the proposal did not meet the required 400,000 supporting votes, falling short by 15,000 votes. KP discovered a vulnerability that could have allowed hackers to steal user funds, albeit at a high cost, and promptly reported it. He requested a $125,000 reward, just over 80% of Compound DAO's maximum bug bounty. The proposal had endorsements from key figures at Compound Labs and OpenZeppelin. KP has since resubmitted the proposal, asking for $100,000 instead.

Compound's bug bounty program guidelines state that rewards for discoveries are based on their severity and exploitability, and are determined at Compound’s discretion.
