Nigeria has officially introduced the continent's first multilingual large language model (LLM), a milestone in African artificial intelligence development, announced by Communications Minister Dr. Bosun Tijani. This strategic move, facilitated by a collaboration among Nigerian AI company Awarritech, DataDotOrg, the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), and the National Centre for AI and Robotics (NCAIR), aims to foster AI advancements crucial for the nation.
The newly launched LLM is designed to understand and process five low-resource languages plus accented English, enhancing the AI's ability to manage diverse linguistic data.
